Things that are better than a New York City hot dog

A writer at the New Yorker has compiled an exhaustive list, in his opinion, of things that are better than a New York City hot dog.

I take exception with a few of the items on his list like kittens, sushi, the first robin, Rhode Island, fresh blueberry pie, and many more. But there are others that I can attest to. Like a wrap-around porch, the Blue Ridge Parkway and swimming with dolphins.

As one reader noted, "I think that still qualifies as 'not a lot of things', given the immense amount of things in the world." And I couldn't agree more. Which goes to show the immense greatness of a New York City hot dog. But as I went through the list, I couldn't help but think about how many of the items on the list could be made even better if a New York City hot dog was added to them. Nothing goes better with a good fastball than... a New York City hot dog.'s Street Sommelier

Daniel Delaney from teamed up with Internet wine guru Gary Vaynerchuk to tour some New York City street meat hot spots to pair up some wines with street far in an episode titled Street Sommelier.

The Vendys are back

It's that time of year again. The Vendy Awards have returned (with a new snazzy website) for their 4th go-round. The street meat throw-down will take place on October 18th, starting at 3:00 PM at the Tobacco Warehouse in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Buy your tickets early because there's no guarantee there will be any left at the door.

All donations and ticket sales go to the Urban Justice Center-run Street Vendor Project, which is a non-profit organization devoted to helping New York street vendors get the rights that they deserve.

They're still taking nominations so hurry up and give your favorite vendor(s) a shout because the nominations close September 7th. And as a little extra incentive, everyone who nominates a vendor will be automatically entered to win one a pair of tickets to the Vendy Awards.

The hits just keep on coming

There's more high praise for our work over at The Gluttoness. We couldn't agree more with her evaluation of how useful and necessary our site is. So keep adding vendors and reviews. We can't do it without you.

We’re Zagat Rated!

Ever seen a Zagat rated street cart? Neither have we. But we just got the next closest thing! See us on Zagat Survey's handy website.

Our 15 minutes is still going strong!

After an awesome write up in Thrillist this morning, Gridskipper also gave us a nice plug today. The urban travel guide had some nice things to say, even though we beat the author to the punch with the idea! Thanks for the press and encouraging visitors to post new vendors (please do!). And don't forget, we do have Dosas.

We’re famous!

Well, not really but we are making headlines!, a daily email blast that hits over 100,000 readers included us in their list of awesomeness on December 5. Please join us in thanking the good people at Thrillist. Because of them, we saw a huge jump in traffic. Eat, drink and be merry (at your local street cart of course).
